RCMP media release of laser lights flashed into cockpits

Kelowna RCMP are investigating 2 separate incidents from August 10, 2009 , where a laser light was flashed into the cockpit of two commercial flights. The incidents occurred at 8:45 and 10:20 PM while the flights were on approach to land at Kelowna International Airport. Kelowna RCMP and the Airport would like to remind the public it is a criminal offence under the Aeronautics Act to aim a directed bright light source into the cockpit of an aircraft as it creates a hazard to aviation safety. If convicted of aiming a laser light into the cockpit of an aircraft, the maximum penalty under the Aeronautics Act is $100,000, imprisonment of up to five years or both.
